BBC Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton became emotional as they started off Monday's show with a tribute to Dr Michael Mosley. The broadcasters expressed their shock over the death of the doctor, who appeared on the breakfast show alongside his wife Dr Clare Bailey Mosley on April 29.

Mr Mosley was found on the Greek island of Symi on Sunday (June 9). His body was discovered in a secluded area behind a wall and fence that encloses the Agia Marina resort. It is suspected that he may have strayed from a rocky path and succumbed to the intense heat or suffered a fall on the rough terrain. CCTV footage has captured the moment Dr Mosley appears to stumble near the location where his body was later discovered, with his widow stating he "very nearly made it" to safety. At the time of his discovery, Mr Mosley still had the purple umbrella he had taken with him.

Opening Morning Live on Monday, Gethin said the news "didn't feel real" as he paid tribute to Michael. He said: "We are reacting to the incredibly sad news that presenter Michael Mosley has died aged 67 after going missing whilst on holiday in Greece. It's just really hard to believe that it was here actually, he was sitting right here on Morning Live not so long ago giving his brilliant advice, as he always does, he was here with his wonderful wife Dr Clare Bailey Mosley too, it just doesn't feel real at all, does it"

Helen then added: "He's been sharing advice that has changed people's lives for years and that advice will continue to be passed on, I think Clare's tribute to her husband yesterday really struck a chord with everyone."

Sharing part of Clare's statement, Helen held back tears as she read out: "It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael." You can read Clare's statement in full here.

Morning Live contributor Dr Xand also paid tribute to Michael, who had starred on Trust Me I'm A Doctor alongside Xand's twin brother Chris. He said: "Chris presented a show with him for years called Trust Me I'm A Doctor and he has had this huge impact on our lives. In fact, he also broadcast about my wife's research, he reached into so many people's lives and he did this very unusual thing of being wildly generous.

"He would elevate everyone around him and he set this amazing example where he didn't get into fights with people, he wasn't difficult, he was very gentle with his health advice, you never felt judged about your weight or anything else but what he was talking about was revolutionary stuff, when he started talking about fasting that was a really, really big idea that was quite complicated."

Calling Michael "very lovely and humble," Xand added: "I'm going to miss him so much in so many ways but I think so many people will miss the advice and also that he was a guy we could look to. very humble lovely."

Helen rounded off the tribute by telling viewers: "We are of course sending all of our love to Clare and the entire family. Michael was a much-loved member of The One Show team having worked on it since the beginning, tonight Alex and Jermaine will be paying tribute to him from 7pm on BBC One."
