Ghosts US season three premiere spoilers follow.

Ghosts US producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have addressed one character's exit in the season 3 premiere.

The American version of the recently-concluded BBC series returned this week to resolve a major cliffhanger from last year's finale, where one of the ghosts was 'sucked off' (in the parlance of the show) into the next realm.

It was later revealed that Sheila Carrasco's sweet-natured hippie Flower was the missing ghost at Woodstone Mansion, leaving Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long) bereft because he'd fallen in love with the departed spirit.

In an interview with Deadline, producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman explained why it made sense for Flower to go missing from the manor.

"I mean, we had a lot of talks after we got picked up," Wiseman recalled. "Before the room started, we didn’t know exactly who it was gonna be, but we definitely had candidates in mind. And then just through talking it out, we wanted to be someone who was consequential, someone that was impactful.

"We landed on Flower, [she] would be an interesting ghost to disappear. because it would create a lot of storylines. A lot of people would have different reactions. Thor, obviously, is in love with Flower and would be super devastated. Other ghosts would be jealous of her because [she] hasn’t been there as long. So it just seemed like we’d create a lot of stories."

Port explained that while Flower's disappearance was "a really cool, fun way to end the season" last year, there's hope she could reappear in the mansion someday.

"It’s interesting, when a ghost gets sucked off on the show, they’re not dead," Wiseman said. "They’re all already dead. So we’ve had ways in previous episodes to bring in ghosts who have been sucked off [come] back for stories and whatnot. And we tell stories with flashbacks, etc.

"So, yeah, in theory, there would be ways of still seeing a ghost who has moved on."

Ghosts continues on Thursdays on CBS in the US, and past episodes are available to stream on the BBC iPlayer in the UK.
