Gillian Anderson Grills Rufus Sewell in SCOOP Trailer — Get Release Date for Drama About Infamous Prince Andrew Interview

In 2019, England’s Prince Andrew agreed to sit down with BBC Newsnight to talk about his alleged friendship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The ensuing interview went so poorly for the prince that it spawned not one but two upcoming dramatizations.

The first to come out, Netflix’s SCOOP, released its teaser trailer Monday. In the video above, you can see The X-Files‘ Gillian Anderson — as BBC reporter Emily Maitlis — kick off the historic chat with Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat), who plays the royal.

“Inspired by real events, SCOOP is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earthshattering interview – Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance,” reads the official logline. “From the tension of producer Sam McAlister’s high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way to Emily Maitlis’ jaw dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, SCOOP takes us inside the story, with the women who would stop at nothing to get it. To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.”

The film will begin streaming on Friday, April 5. The cast also includes Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard), Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful) and Romola Garai (Becoming Elizabeth).

The other project based on the notorious sit-down is Prime Video’s A Very Royal Scandal, a three-part series limited series in which Ruth Wilson (The Affair) plays Matlis opposite Michael Sheen (Good Omens) as Prince Andrew. Prime Video’s retelling of the event follows the streamer’s previous series A Very British Scandal and A Very English Scandal.
