Yahoo News Gillian Anderson joins Netflix Western series with Game of Thrones' Lena Headey
Gillian Anderson has been cast in Netflix's upcoming Western drama The Abandons alongside Games of Thrones star Lena Headey.
The 10-part series will follow a group of outlier families in 1850s Oregon as they pursue their Manifest Destiny (the cultural belief that American settlers were destined to expand across North America), while a corrupt force of wealth and power tries to force them out.
According to an official description for the series, these "abandoned souls" unite their tribes in an attempt to fight back and, in the process, "justice is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law."

According to Variety, Anderson has been cast as Constance, who's described as "the matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who inherited her husband’s mining fortune, then doubled it".
The character description for Constance continues: "Despite the town's inherent bias against women, her money, charm, and ruthlessness created a network of political allies. For her, power, wealth, and lineage trumps all."
The Abandons, which is created by Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter, also stars previously-announced cast member Headey as a devout matriarch named Fiona, who is driven by "her faith and love for her family".

The 10-episode show marks another Netflix role for Anderson – who, in addition to reprising her role as sex therapist Jean Milburn in the upcoming fourth season of Sex Education, will star as broadcaster Emily Maitlis in Netflix movie SCOOP.
The film is set to focus on the women, including Maitlis, who made Prince Andrew's infamous 2019 Newsnight interview possible.
The Diplomat's Rufus Sewell will play Prince Andrew, Bodyguard's Keeley Hawes will play his former private secretary Amanda Thirsk and Doctor Who's Billie Piper will portray Sam McAlister, the producer who secured the booking.
The Abandons and SCOOP don't have release dates on Netflix yet.
