New Girl and Elf star Zooey Deschanel has unveiled a brand new hairstyle.

The actress and singer is famous for her darker locks that has often seen her confused with Katy Perry, but now she has debuted a new blonde style that looks a lot like Reese Witherspoon.

Uploading two photos of her new 'do to her Instagram, Deschanel wrote: "Who's she?"

Fans in the comments compared her to Farrah Fawcett, Dolly Parton and a young Jane Fonda, while plenty of people pointed out that her character Jovie from Elf was also a blonde.

Elf was one of Deschanel's first big roles before she landed her leading sitcom part. Another film she starred in before New Girl that was less fondly received, however, was The Happening.

"[The Happening] was pretty universally not loved!" she admitted last year. "The director, M Night Shyamalan – Night – had a strong vision and we were all trying to do what he wanted.

"I trusted him, because he's a great filmmaker. I didn't know until I saw the film, but I think he was going for a stylised horror, like The Birds, and maybe people didn't get that. I had a blast working with Night and Mark Wahlberg, but while I've done serious drama, I'm not sure I fit with thrillers. I find most joy in doing comedy."

Deschanel hasn't starred in many major projects for a while, and fans have called for her to play Jess again in a New Girl continuation. In a recent interview, she stated that it's something she'd consider.

"I definitely had a wonderful time and would be very happy to revisit [the show]," she said. "It kind of depends on the circumstance. I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life doing reboots."
