Our Girl star Michelle Keegan has spoken following her casting in new Netflix project Fool Me Once.

This week it was confirmed that the actress will appear in the latest Harlan Coben adaptation for the streamer alongside Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar and Joanna Lumley.

Posting a series of pictures on Instagram, including one of her reading the original novel in a sunny location and a shot of her trailer as filming gets underway, Keegan shared her excitement about joining the project.

"Finally the secret's out!! I'm over the moon to be joining the cast of Fool Me Once, a @netflixuk thriller based on the book by the extremely talented @harlancoben. Here we gooooo…" she wrote.

Keegan will take on the role of Maya Stern in the eight-part series, a grief-stricken mother who is in mourning following the murder of her husband Joe (Armitage). However, things get confusing when she sees a man entering her house resembling her husband.

Elsewhere, Maya's niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, try to find the truth about their mother's murder, and examine how the two cases may be connected.

Ahktar will play the detective investigating the case, while Lumley has also been cast as Maya's mother-in-law.

Keegan is well known for appearing in Our Girl as Sergeant Georgie Lane between series 2 and 4, and previously revealed that she hasn't ruled out a return in the future.

"I absolutely loved playing that role and I loved Our Girl, but I felt at the time that Georgie had completed her storyline," she said. "She is still alive, so a few years down the line we could pick it back up again. I would love to do Our Girl again; people would love to see what Georgie is up to now."

Fool Me Once will stream on Netflix.
