Glasgow Airport has been named Airport of the Year for the second year running and staff are "thrilled" to have received the accolade.

The Paisley-based airport bagged the win at the Scottish Transport Awards last Thursday (June 20).

The judging panel praised the transport hub for its operation excellence and efforts to continually improve the passenger experience.

Managing director, Mark Beveridge said: "We are thrilled to have been named Scotland’s Airport of the Year for the second consecutive year.

"Our wider airport community employs thousands of people across more than 100 companies, but we each have the same desire and drive to ensure our passengers enjoy an excellent customer experience.

"We focus on ensuring the passenger is at the heart of everything we do, so it is great to see that the judging panel has once again recognised the remarkable work being done day in, day out by our people."

AGS Airports, who own the transport hub as well as Aberdeen and Southhampton Airports, also picked up an award for The Project CAELUS consortium in partnership with NHS Scotland.

Otherwise known as the Care and Equity Healthcare Logistics UAS Scotland, it was named the Most Innovative Transport Project.

CAELUS is part funded from the Future Flight Challenge at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to research what will be the UK’s first medical distribution network using drones which has launched its next phase.

Fiona Smith, AGS Airports group head of aerodrome strategy and CAELUS project director, said: "We were delighted when we heard we had been shortlisted in the Scottish Transport Awards earlier this year, so to win is a fantastic achievement.

"Our team will be carrying out more live flight trials later this year to showcase how we can revolutionise the way healthcare services are delivered in Scotland and to provide equity of care.

"This award is testament to the hard work carried out by all the partners involved in this consortium and I thank them all as we continue onto the next phase of the project."

On the same night, Glasgow Airport also picked up the Best Brand Development Award at the Marketing Society Star Awards for the ‘Go For It Campaign’.
