A Glasgow mum-to-be has been left desperate to move out of her Cardonald flat which she claims is in need of repairs.

Courtney Kimmins has lived in the studio flat, which is managed by Wheatley Homes, for more than a year and she believes it is unfit for her to welcome a newborn into the world.

The 24-year-old claims she has been dealing with a number of issues - especially in the kitchen.

She told Glasgow Live: "I was going to start doing up the kitchen and when I took some of the floor up there was a big hole.

"I don't want to go any further in case it crumbles underneath. The kitchen doors and cabinets are nearly falling off, it's at the point where if you put any weight on it, they will crumble.

"The plumbing and wiring also needs worked on. It has been non-stop constantly."

Wheatley Homes told Glasgow Live they have re-arranged a date to inspect the plumbing system of the property. The housing association also state that repairs have been carried out and they were only made aware of other issues recently.

The Cardonald woman feels as though her problems have been ignored by the housing association. Courtney claims that repair people sometimes don't show up or appear unannounced while she is away.

The 24-year-old explained: "I feel everything I've said goes in one ear and out the other.

"Right now I feel abandoned. I'm scared to bring my child here.

"What if they touch one of the kitchen cupboards and it falls on them. I'm terrified because I don't feel I can welcome a child into this house.

"I'm now trying to move out of this place. I've had enough and I need to get out of here.

"I don't want to be in the house, it's depressing."

A Wheatley Homes Glasgow spokesperson said: “We’re doing everything we can to carry out repairs in the home, but the tenant has not allowed us access on several occasions.

“The tenant first got in touch last December to raise issues about the plumbing, but she wasn’t at home when we arranged an inspection. We asked the tenant to get back in touch to arrange a new date for this to be carried out, which she did only last week.

“Our teams were also out at the beginning of the year to replace the radiator, which was fixed the next day. The first we were aware about issues with the flooring was today.

“It’s simply not the case to claim these issues have been going on for a year.

“We’ll continue to keep in touch with the tenant and arrange for any additional repairs to be carried out as soon as we can.”
