ScotRail is set to put on extra rail services as passengers are warned to prepare for some travel delays following the Foo Fighters gig at Hampden Park.

The rail operator confirmed extra services will be added to and from Glasgow Central when Dave Grohl and his band take to the stage today (Monday, June 17).

To help people get to the gig, ScotRail will be adding more trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida - the closest station to Hampden.

Additional late-night services have also been announced, helping as many fans as possible return to Glasgow Central by train.

ScotRail is encouraging fans to check and plan their journey in advance due to the likelihood for disruption.

Customers are also advised to allow extra time for travel as trains to and from the city centre are expected to be more popular than normal.

Extra staff will be on hand at key stations to assist customers, and the train operator is reminding everyone that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains, and stations.

ScotRail customer operations director, Phil Campbell, said: “We’re looking forward to helping music fans travel by train to see the Foo Fighters in concert at Hampden Park on Monday night.

“We’re adding more services between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida to help fans travel to and from the event.

“Our advice to customers is to allow extra time for travel as trains are likely to be more popular than normal on Monday evening. Buying return tickets before you board will help your journey run smoothly.”

The news comes as First Bus also confirmed they would be offering a dedicated service for fans with Gig-goers able to hop on the special services frequently from 6 pm onwards outside O’Neill’s bar on Union Street.

Passengers will be dropped off on Cathcart Road behind Hampden’s West Stand.
