An affluent postcode has been named the most desirable area for movers as data shows workers are increasingly leaving London for Glasgow.

The city has seen an increase of 89% of people choosing to move to the city compared to 2022, with 14.5% coming from London and an estimated 5.9% abandoning Edinburgh. According to stats from removal comparison website Compare My Move, G12 and the west end are the most popular areas for movers, but also come with a hefty price tag with the highest average house price of £263,897.

Glasgow South was also popular, G41 and G42 postcodes earned the second and third most popular places. With average house prices of £182,250 and £147,067, proving a cheaper option while still maintaining close links to the city centre and some of the best restaurants in the city.

Despite the west end being one of the most expensive places in the city to live, the average house prices continue to pull those in from the Scottish and English capitals with Edinburgh having an average home cost of £335,189 and London £712,108.

The G12 area was previously named one of the coolest places to live in the UK in a Naturecan survey. It was voted 12th on their list of the Top 50 Coolest Places to Live, as voted for by the general public.

Dave Sayce, founder and managing director of Compare My Move said: “With a lower cost of living, and low house prices, but maintaining such a good quality of life, I’m not surprised by the popularity of Glasgow in 2023 and expect this trend to continue into 2024.

"However, popularity is going to impact the market, and as we can see Glasgow’s West End already boasts the highest price in the area. We expect that this popularity won’t be as evident if the house prices rise much more, and the south of Glasgow or even central Glasgow may take its place.”
