Glastonbury fans ask 'why' as Kasabian make surprise appearance and shut down Woodsies

Fans were left questioning 'why' Kasabian couldn't have played a bigger stage as they made a surprise appearance at Glastonbury Festival 2024. The Leicester band did actually confirm their set earlier on Saturday (June 29) after rumours about a possible stint.

The rock band had not been announced as part of the festival’s line-up, and there had been a blank spot in the Saturday timings for the Woodsies stage between 6pm and 7pm.

They confirmed their set on social media earlier today, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: "It’s Happening! See you 6pm at Woodsies @glastonbury." Kasabian also shared a video of the band’s members in a car and, an image of Glastonbury Free Press saying: "It’s happening, 18.00 Saturday."

But an hour before Kasabian’s performance, festival bosses have shut down all entrances to the Woodsies tent because of the volume of people trying to watch them.

As they headed onto the stage, they opened with their 2004 debut album track, Club Foot, with frontman Sergio Pizzorno seen wearing an extravagant jean top and trousers, which boasted strips of clothing hanging from it.

Sergio also greeted the crowds, saying that “several million years has brought us to this moment”, while asking the audience to sing their song Underdog, taken from their 2009 album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

But as those who hadn't made it to Worthy Farm this year and were watching the action unfold across BBC channels, they questioned why the group, who headlined Glastonbury in 2014, couldn't have performed on the Pyramid stage.
