Glastonbury Festival dream for teenage girl battling rare and aggressive cancer

A teenage girl diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer is hoping to extend her life expectancy to 13 months and fulfil her dream of going to Glastonbury music festival this summer. Evelina Mavropoulos got her shock diagnosis on February 3 this year, two days after her 17 th birthday. It was completely out of the blue, she was happy and healthy before this.

The schoolgirl’s family found out she has advanced stage bile duct cancer and are hoping to extend her life to up to 13 months maximum with chemotherapy. Now they are hoping for a miracle and family friend Anna Copper has set up a fundraising page called Joining Hands for a Miracle for clinical trials for Evelina, and also to fulfil her bucket list this summer which includes going to Glastonbury.

Anna said: “We are hoping for a miracle so Evelina can enjoy this summer for as long as possible. She is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment and she is so amazing, she is so positive about her life and her future. She really is a shining star, she is one of those young girls who just shines.

“But it is a very aggressive form of cancer and it has all happened so quick, we are just hoping things will slow down so Evelina can enjoy her summer and the time she has with her family.”

Anna and Evelina’s father Achilleas have set up the GoFundMe page in the hope a miracle really will come along and clinical trials will be found to help save the 17-year-old.

Anna said: “It doesn’t matter where in the world it is, if anyone sees this article and can help please, please get in touch as we haven’t found anything yet. Our quest is not completed and we have a journey ahead of us to find a clinical trial rallying for a young girl’s fight to live longer.”

The family was initially told without chemotherapy Evelina’s life expectancy could be between two to three months as this disease is very rare and extremely aggressive.

The GoFundMe page says: “We are organising fundraising for this wonderful family and a truly brilliant girl, who is determined to keep fighting for her life, fulfil her dreams and be able to participate in clinical trials anywhere in the world, if they come along at short notice.

“We do not lose hope that there might be a trial she would be eligible for, and we need to be financially prepared for this-we will send regular updates if this miracle knocks on our door.”

Evelina, who is attending Southampton General Hospital, hopes to go to Glastonbury Festival with a friend if possible.

Other items on her list are:

1. Formula 1 races

2. Travel to Maldives, Lake Como, Amalfi Coast and Monaco

3. Cruise around Greek Islands

4. Go to music festival-Coachella festival in the States, condition permitting or Glastonbury Festival in June, 2024

5. Possible clinical trials

The GoFundMe page says: “There is another bucket list which no money can buy:

6. Spend next Christmas with her family.

7. Stop constant nausea and tiredness.

8. Continue her education in Peter Symonds College Winchester.

9. Be Healthy and Able to Enjoy Life
