Glee's Matthew Morrison is on his way to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for a huge TV comeback.

The Primetime Emmy Award nominee has landed a recurring role in Grey's Anatomy and will be turning up before the end of the season, according to Entertainment Weekly.

This job could be a huge departure from playing the kind-hearted glee club director Will Schuester, if the latest rumours turn out to be true.

Although there's been no confirmation from ABC just yet, Morrison is rumoured to be playing Jo Wilson's (Camilla Luddington) estranged husband.

Earlier in the season, Jo revealed that she'd run away from her abusive former spouse and secretly changed her name when she was supposed to tie the knot with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers).

If Morrison really is playing Jo's former husband, it could foreshadow some dark times ahead for the surgeon as her painful past is exposed to the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial.

Since Glee ended in the spring of 2015, Morrison has kept busy with a recurring role in the final season of The Good Wife and touring the US in Gary Barlow's musical adaptation of Finding Neverland.

Grey's Anatomy continues on Thursdays at 8pm ET on ABC in the US. In the UK, the medical drama airs on Sky Living.

Like fellow Thank God It's Thursday dramas series Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder , Grey's Anatomy was given an early renewal by ABC back in February.
