Glen Powell is opening up about his decision to leave Los Angeles.

The Hit Man actor, 35, revealed he’s moving back to his home state of Texas after living in Hollywood for more than 15 years, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Powell, who grew up in Austin and attended the University of Texas for one year, tells the outlet that it was actually another star and fellow Texan who influenced him: Matthew McConaughey.

“He’s like, ‘Hollywood is the Matrix, man. You plug in and it’s all fake world.' He’s like, ‘Then I go to Austin, and I unplug. It’s all real. Those are my friends, that’s my family, my actions matter there,'” Power recalls of his fellow leading man's insights.

“And he’s right," Powell adds. "If you’re here, you live in the Matrix all the time, there’s no separation of those worlds. And for me, especially as my parents get older and my niece and nephew are growing up, I want a separation of those worlds.”

McConaughey has been vocal about his decision to leave California behind for a more simple lifestyle in Texas with his wife Camila Alves McConaughey and their three kids.

The Anyone but You star adds that he’s looking forward to being around family more as they “keep him out of his head.”

After buying a house just 30 minutes away from his parents’ home base, Powell reflects on being at a specific “point in Hollywood” where he can now leave if he wants to.

“It’s like I’ve earned the ability to go back to my family,” he shares.

Another reason why he was swayed to return home was to finish his studies at UT. He explains why he’s eager to complete his Spanish and Early American History degree amid his success as an actor.

“I think it’s really important to my mom and it’s more of an emotional thing for me,” he says. “Plus, I’m so close, I can taste it.
