Richard Graham, who was defending a majority of over 10,000, said this was the fifth and final time he would be standing as a Conservative candidate for Gloucester. "Alex, to you congratulations on becoming the new MP for Gloucester, Mr Graham said. "There is no greater honour that this city can bestow on anyone and I know you will work hard to do your best."

He added "it has been an enormous privilege to serve you for 14 years and during that time together everyone from all different parties, persuasions, beliefs and heritage have been able to achieve some wonderful things together."

There was a mention of new projects in Gloucester such as The Forum and the University of Gloucester City Campus that Mr Graham wished both Alex McIntyre and the Liberal Democrat run Gloucester City Council "the best fortune in taking them forward."
