Glusburn School proud to be a respecter of children's rights

GLUSBURN Community Primary School has once again received a UNICEF award for its work respecting the rights of children.

The school recently received the Rights Respecting School Award for the fourth time.

In 2009, the school became the first school in North Yorkshire to be recognised with the award and ever since, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has been the focus of school life.

Kathy Allan from UNICEF said: "As well as in school, (the) children are involved in tackling injustice on a broader scale and they have a good understanding of global citizenship."

She added, "Children at Glusburn are passionate about their rights and are confident in talking about how rights support them and others both locally and globally."

The Rights Respecting School Award is an initiative run by UNICEF UK, which encourages schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its ethos and curriculum.
