Kate Garraway has received hundreds of messages of support after sharing a "tough" family update.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 57, lost her husband Derek Draper at the beginning of this year. Derek died in January aged 56 after he fell critically ill after contracting long-covid and later suffered a heart attack.

Kate produced a number of documentaries about her husband's condition and the care he needed, when he was finally able to come home after some 13 months in hospital. The programmes have won a series of awards.

On Monday, the mum-of-two took to Instagram to share an emotional update. She posted a photo of herself, Derek, and their children Darcy and Billy, as well as snaps with her own father and Derek's dad.

Kate said: "So yesterday was one of those days the kids and I knew would be tough. #fathersday - the day when everyone wants to celebrate their daddy. We started by visiting Derek’s grave early - and talked about all the amazing things we loved about him, the daft things he did to make us laugh and all the things he has given us that we’ll never forget.

"We have so much to be grateful for. We’re also so grateful to still have my amazing dad in our lives and Derek’s dad too. Brilliant Papa and Grandad. Then thanks to my fab @global family we went to the #capitalsummertimeball - an amazing day of music and summer joy.

"It was sad coming home and not finding Derek waiting to hear 'all about it' as he used to say. But so wonderful that we had him at all.

"I know for so many yesterday would have been a tough day so here’s to getting through and let’s celebrate all the wonderful fathers and father figures and what they gift us everyday."

Fans have rushed to send well wishes in the post's comments section, as Karen said: "Aw I bet it was a tough day Kate, Derek will always be with you. Thinking if you all xx". Zoe said: "Your strength is admirable" and Maggie said: "Oh bless you Kate, it is tough".
