Godiva Festival attendees say they can't believe the prices advertised for drinks, with one writing on Facebook that “you’ll need a bank loan to go.”

The festival, which features the likes of Richard Ashcroft, The Go! Team, Paloma Faith, Friend Within, and Lady Leshurr, revealed their bar prices and just how dear drinks will be.

A can of Madri beer will set you back £6.25 while those who enjoy a spirit can expect to pay £7.50 for a single or £9.50 for a double.

Glasses of wine are £7.50 with bottles priced at £30.00. And for those not drinking, water or a can of Pepsi Max will set you back £2.50.

Reactions on social media included people bemoaning the cost of drinks in the middle of a cost of living crisis, as well as the quality of said drinks in years gone by.

One even joked “who wants alcohol at Godiva? I’ll throw it over the fence for a price.”

Others said they’d skip on drinks and just load up in town with their mates rather than pay for the drinks inside the festival perimeter.

That said, others rushed to the defence of the festival, with one woman saying that “if it was cheap, they'd run out quicker, people would get too drunk too quickly, and drunk and disorderly behaviour occurs.”

The festival itself has also put tough restrictions on the gates, with backpacks banned and only small handbags or bodybags permitted inside the perimeter.

Either way, the warning is to take it easy or prepare to spend big while you’re having it large at the War Memorial Park.
