Golf day in Norfolk sweeps in record-breaking sum for RNLI

A charity golf day in Norfolk has secured £40,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

The event, facilitated by the Hunstanton and West Norfolk Lifeboat Guild with the assistance of Hunstanton Golf Club, was held on June 21 with representatives from business and RNLI teams among the participants.

David West, vice-chair of the guild, said: "It was a day where local knowledge was found to be a premium but youth managed to take the overall first prize.

"Although the final monies aren't collected yet we are pretty certain we shall have a record year and maybe top out at over £40,000 after all costs."

The competition, which started in 2013, has now raised more than £220,000 for the RNLI.

Among the event's prizes was a silver salver, donated by local aggregates supplier PR Thory Ltd in honour of the RNLI's 200th year.

Director Tim Thory, who also participated, said: "We live here, my wife Helen is on the guild and we think it's an important cause.

"Any of us might need rescuing one day."
