Good Morning Britain confirmed it had made a major change to the penultimate episode of the week. Kate Garraway was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Thursday (July 4) alongside Adil Ray.

Those tuning in may have been gearing up for a busy show with the General Election taking place, however, the show's hosts revealed a big change had to be made - for one day only.

Kate and Adil said it would be a "politics-free" episode, despite having heavily covered the various political events and milestones the country has faced over the years. But there was a good reason why.

Kate and Adil both explained why the change had to take place with their election expert Alex Thomas detailing that both radio and TV were affected by the restriction which was imposed by Ofcom.

Kate said: "You might be wondering why on the day of the election - because it is polling day today, by the way - we're not actually discussing the issues related to the general election or interviewing the people that have a position on the issues."

She added: "We can't talk about the issues because we have to follow certain broadcasting rules which means today's Good Morning Britain is a 'politics-free zone.'" Adil then joked: "Some people might enjoy!" as Kate replied: "Some people might be delighted!"

Later on, Adil Ray added they were urged to make "no reference to any of the campaigns" during the show, just as polling stations opened all over the UK at 7am, which they decalred a 'breaking news' moment.
