Good Morning Britain host forced to intervene after tense Tory MP row erupts live on air

Good Morning Britain was abuzz this Friday as the nation reacted to the Labour Party's sweeping victory in the General Election.

In a special extended broadcast, the programme captured the unfolding drama of the live ballot counts and featured interviews with various candidates.

In a turn of events, Conservative MP Steve Baker lost his Wycombe seat, marking a historic win for Labour and heralding Kier Starmer as the new Prime Minister.

During a tense moment on the show, hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid spoke with Steve Baker about his defeat while former Chancellor George Osborne was present in the studio, the Mirror reports.

Confusion ensued when Baker mistakenly thought Osborne had posed the question, "So the voters got it wrong? " leading him to lash out and hit back: "George, I'm not getting into an argument with you."

The studio descended into disarray as Ed clarified that he was the one who asked the question, despite Susanna's attempts to intervene, saying, "no that's Ed," which went unheard by Baker.

Baker continued: "George you and I have got a lot of history,. You know, and if only you'd fought a better Reform campaign."

Once the mix-up was cleared, Ed apologised: "Sorry about that," to both Baker and Osborne, taking responsibility for the awkward exchange.

"I have to just apologise to you and to George Osborne, it was me Ed Balls asking that question."

Steve realised he mistake as he confessed: "Oh, Ed... well."

The uncomfortable incident didn't escape the attention of viewers who took to X, previously known as Twitter, after the cringe-worthy moment unfolded on the live ITV show earlier today.

One viewer tweeted: "Steve Baker having a massive hissy fit on @ GMB right now," while another chimed in: "If you've missed it, look out for the Steve Baker GMB interview on here later.

"Absolute car crash, shouting at George Osbourne when Ed Balls asked the question. Blamed everyone and everything except Sunak. He even blamed it on the 1911 National Insurance Act. Baffling."

A third viewer added: "I sat watching it swinging between laughing at him and raging at his arrogance! Ed balls threw him a lifeline at the end, sympathising how hard it is to lose his seat and Steve just threw it right back in his face. What a child."

A fourth viewer remarked: "A Steve Baker Masterclass on why the Tories lost."

While another concluded: "Steve Baker on @GMB sounded like a right sore loser then. Still though, brilliant to hear him having a massive rant at George Osborne even though it was Ed Balls who asked him a question."
