Kate Garraway left her Good Morning Britain colleagues scrambling on Thursday morning when she missed her first day back after appearing on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The presenter took to Instagram to laugh off the “disaster,” explaining that she’d fallen asleep the night before she’d had a chance to take her clothes and makeup off, remove her contact lenses and, perhaps most importantly, set an alarm.

“Woke up looking like this !!!??!!! Can’t believe it,” she continued, joking that she might get sacked for skipping out on her planned return from the jungle.

The 52-year-old even went on to recall how she had proudly discussed her never having overslept since joining the ITV show 20 years ago with fellow campmates Adele Roberts and Roman Kemp just a few weeks ago.

“That’s karma !!!!”

Fortunately for Garraway, Ranvir Singh managed to fill her seat on 19 December, but that didn’t stop co-host Ben Shephard from shaming her tardiness live on air.

“She should be here,” he chuckled as the team noted her absence and interviewing her from her home as the show kicked off.

“Look, I’ve still got my shoes on,” she said, as she held up a black boot to the camera. “I fell asleep, and the next thing I know, it was 20 minutes ago. I’ve never done this! I was so smug. I’m gonna get fired… Shall I just come now?”

“You have one slip of primetime and this is what happens,” Shephard teased, while Singh laughed: “Shall we FaceTime you during the interviews, if you got any interesting questions for our guests?”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
