Good News for Snow-Starved Ski Resorts as White Stuff Returns in French Alps

Snow made its return to areas of Alpine France from January 8-10, Meteo France said, delivering some good news for snow-starved ski resorts.

Video shot by Meteo Franc-Comtoise shows heavy snow falling in the town of Les Fourgs, with several inches settling on its main road.

According to local media reports, the nearby resort of Metabief, around six miles from Les Fourgs, had to rely on fake snow and “non-skiing activities” to keep visitors satisfied in early January.

The fresh falls come amid a below-average winter for snow across Europe, with recent video from St Jakob im Walde, Austria, showing skiers riding on patches of wet grass. Credit: ©Météo Franc-Comtoise via Storyful
