TOBIAS Thomsen is set to make a timely return from injury, ahead of the resumption of Poole Pirates’ SGB Championship campaign.

Pirates welcome Edinburgh Monarchs on Wednesday (7.30pm), their first home meeting since June 5.

Thomsen missed Pirates’ last clash, at Oxford on June 19, with a foot injury, which turned out to be a sprain rather than a fracture, reducing the fears of him facing a lengthy lay-off.

The Dane said: “In the first week following my crash (in Denmark) I began physio on my foot straight away to give me the best chance of getting back quickly.

“I had a lot of laser treatment and exercises with rubber on the foot to get the strength back.

“The laser has helped to bring the swelling down and so now I don't have a swollen foot. I walk a bit funny but now I can get around and back to work, so all is looking real good and with the continuation of laser treatment and massages, I should be good to go."

Without Thomsen, Poole drew 45-45 at Oxford, losing in a super heat.

Promoter Danny Ford said: “We missed Tobias.

“I felt that we might well have come out on top there had he been with us, so hopefully he can come back in to the side fighting fit.”
