Gordon Ramsay's Nightly Show debut goes off air after technical glitch leaving viewers calling for axe

Gordon Ramsay’s Nightly Show debut was interrupted by a technical glitch, leading viewers to call for the ITV show to be axed.

The TV chef, 50, kicked off his week of hosting duties, which saw him interview Room 101 host Frank Skinner and the Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, but the show suffered a three minute glitch.

During the first ad break, viewers’ screens displayed the message: “We're sorry for the interruption.

“We’re working hard to fix the issue and will return to normal programming soon.”

The hiccup spurned brutal reactions from fans who called for the show to be scrapped permanently while others joked they would rather look at a blank screen than the chat show.

One viewer tweeted: “Has someone literally pulled the plug on The Nightly Show because it's so bloody awful! Who hired Gordon Ramsay? Be ashamed! #thenightlyshow.”

Another wrote: “Finally they've axed the Nightly Show. But half way through the actual show #itv #thenightlyshow.”

Ramsay anticipated a backlash ahead of his debut and said that he needs to “do something different” to win over viewers.

“I know I’m going to get a kicking," he told the Mail on Sunday. “It can’t get any worse. The knives are out. I quite like that... I'm robust. I'm going to stand strong and take the blows. I have to do something different, that's important.”

The Nightly Show is being hosted by a different star each week during its eight-week run.

John Bishop and David Walliams were panned by critics with some branding them “rubbish”.

Davina McCall and Dermot O'Leary and fared better with some claiming O'Leary had “saved” the show.

The Nightly Show is on ITV tonight at 10pm.
