'Got there in the end': Glasgow Airport fixes sign after confusing two languages

Glasgow Airport has corrected one of its signs after confusing two languages.

We previously reported that a sign for Caledonia, a restaurant that is being refurbished at the airport, confused Irish and Scottish Gaelic in its slogan.

A translation of 'Are you hungry?' read as “An bhfuil ocras ort?” when it should have said “A bheil an t-acras ort?”

The mistake was pointed out by Gaelic speaker and co-owner of Gaelic projects agency Astar, Murdo MacSween, who said on Twitter/X on May 14: "Maybe don’t just Google your translations.

“That’s Irish not Scottish Gaelic. Show some respect. Hire someone to translate it or even just try @LearnGaelicScot maybe.”

Another said: “I hope they get that corrected ASAP”.

A third added: “It’s lazy and gives the appearance that they don’t really care."

After the error caught the attention of social media users, the airport confirmed on Tuesday that they had corrected the mistake - with the help of language-learning app Duolingo.

They shared a new image of the sign and said: "It took us the weekend, but we got there in the end. Thanks, Duolingo."
