People have been asked to keep their distance from pregnant horses in the Gower after some have become too close. Robert Morgan, a fifth-generation farmer who runs Rhossili Sunflowers and a farm on Gower, tends to the horses on the cliffs on behalf of their owner Nicky Beynon.

He explained how many horses in Rhossili are in foal or having foals at the moment, but added that many are getting too close to the animals, and scaring them as a result. In May, we reported how a horse fell off a cliff and another lost its pregnancy just weeks before the foal was due to be born due to what was described as the "negligence and stupidity" of some dog owners.

In an update, Mr Morgan wrote: "So many, this weekend, were getting too close and scaring the foal and mother having just foaled, such an important time once born. We all love seeing Nicky Beynon's horses at Rhossili, as invaluable with their grazing they do, and a part of Rhossili. Please keep your distance and gently remind the selfish few who do not, as last year we had fatalities for this. Thank you all who respect the horses and their home not ours." Mr Morgan added that the horse that lost a foal last year has now finally become a mum and is safe back at the farm. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

It is not the only such incident. In November last year, we reported how a terrified foal panicked and fell from the cliff at Worms Head when a group of people tried taking selfies with it.

Mr Morgan added: "We love everyone coming to visit the sunflowers, Rhossili and its famous horses, but please respect them, much appreciated." The Rhossili Sunflowers will be sown this week, with the popular attraction set for a mid-July opening. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news.
