Grade II-listed pub under new ownership reopens after major refurb

A Grade-II listed pub on the Norfolk coast is making waves as it reopens under new ownership following a major refurbishment.

The White Horse in Holme, near Hunstanton, is now part of the Anglian Country Inns (ACI) group.

It takes the total of ACI's establishments up to 10 and its portfolio also includes The White Horse and The Jolly Sailors in Brancaster Staithe and The Kings Head in Letheringsett.

The White Horse in Holme has reopened following a transformation that has reinstated many original features of the property.

The 70-cover pub has low ceilings, a fireplace, restored dining furniture and a large table for get-togethers.

Outside, there is a spacious south-facing garden with a fire pit, more dining space, a pétanque area and a children's playground.

The new entrance to the historic pub leads to a large parking area.

Will Pryke, general manager, and Ian Daw, head chef, have introduced new menus with a focus on local produce.

Mr Daw said: "I feel very honoured to have been in at the beginning of this amazing adventure.

"To me, this isn't just another pub in Norfolk - it is a testament to the community, its people and its produce."

Customers can expect to feast on Brancaster oysters, Cromer crab crumpets, Tim Allen’s pork T-Bone chop, Sandringham Farm mutton chops and Billy Ward's lobsters with garlic and herb butter.

Mr Pryke said: "Keeping the community at the heart of the pub will be key to its success.

"Locals Carrie and Martin Harvey were the first to join me for a drink across the bar and they were also the first at The White Horse in Brancaster Staithe all those 27 years ago."

The drinks offering includes beers from Woodforde's Brewery and wines from Burn Valley Vineyard, both based in Norfolk.

The opening times are Monday to Saturday 12noon to 10.30pm (food 12noon-9pm) and Sundays 12noon to 9pm (food 12noon to 6pm).
