Grass Fire Shuts Down Colorado Springs Roadway

Firefighters worked to contain a grass fire that broke out along a busy Colorado Springs roadway on Monday, February 26.

Footage from the scene shows crews with the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) working on the fire in the area of Union Boulevard and Hancock Expressway on the southeast side of the city.

All southbound lanes of Union Boulevard were shut down in the vicinity of Fountain Boulevard, according to the department.

The CSFD urged drivers not to go through an active emergency scene, writing on X, “You put our firefighters at risk as they’re working to mitigate the situation. We’ve had several drivers drive passed our community service officers and through this scene. Please help keep us safe so we can help keep you safe.”

A red flag warning was in effect for Colorado Springs through Monday evening, as low humidity coupled with gusty winds heightened fire risk across the region. Credit: CSFD PIO via Storyful
