Great British Bake Off: Paul Hollywood Reveals The Real Reason He Stayed With The Show

2016’s probably the most “REALLY, GUYS?!” year on record, but the decision to move The Great British Bake Off from it’s home on the BBC to Channel 4 certainly caused one of the biggest upsets.

Paul Hollywood – the only person on the show who decided to follow the move to Channel 4 -has now hit back at claims that the only reason he stayed was due to money.

Speaking to The Sun, the judge on the hit show told reporters that he simply couldn’t leave the show – as he loves it so much: “I just didn’t want to leave the job because I love that job,”

Paul – a relative unknown before ‘Bake Off’ – couldn’t find a 'reason’ to part ways with Love Productions, the makers of the programme.

Fellow judge Mary Berry and presenters Mel and Sue both decided to leave the show out of a sense of loyalty to the BBC.

According to Paul, both he and Mary spoke about their plans after Mel and Sue announced their departure:

“I got a text from Mel telling me what they were doing so I knew a couple of hours before everybody and I think that was the end really of chapter one,”

“Mary and I spoke about Mel and Sue leaving and we understood their decision. Then we spoke about our decision.”

Speaking about who would replace the others on the show next year, Paul said that there was a list of over 50 people in the mix – but that he was clueless as to who it could be:

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be a woman, no. I’ve got a list of people as long as your arm who are qualified for the job with me and I’m going to find out more about them over the next few weeks,” Paul said.

“At the moment nobody is in the frame.”

We can’t wait to find out!
