Today could be the hottest day of the year so far in Greater Manchester - as temperatures are set to soar to 23C this afternoon.

Met Office forecasters predict wall-to-wall sunshine for our region on Sunday as the mercury climbs to a warm 23C throughout the day. Dry, fine and sunny conditions are predicted through the whole day and into the early evening.

UV levels are expected to be high, forecasters predict, especially in the early afternoon. Parks and beauty spots look set to be busy as sunseekers enjoy what could be the warmest day of the year so far in our region.

And people will likely be making the most of the sunny weather, as cloudier conditions are then predicted to set in from Monday, though it will remain mild. Tomorrow, cloudier weather is predicted in the morning with the mercury rising to highs of around 19C during the afternoon.

There may be some sunny spells during the afternoon but it conditions will not be as bright as today. More cloudy weather is then forecast in Greater Manchester throughout the rest of the week, with an average high temperature of around 19C expected.

On the overall outlook for the North West from Tuesday to Thursday, the Met Office said: "Somewhat cloudier through this period but still warm in the sunny spells.

"Showers are likely at times, these heaviest on Tuesday when thunder is possible. Perhaps staying dry in places."

The sunny weather in our region today comes after a Met Office thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of the UK yesterday as heavy rain hit. Some areas in the south of England and in Wales saw 'biblical rain' and flooding as heavy downpours fell throughout the afternoon.
