Green eyed Rangers diehards seethe at Ibrox shambles but it's not all smiles for Hotline Celtic punters

Celtic's lack of action in the transfer market and Rangers’ lack of progress in getting Ibrox ready for the new season meant there was no lack of fuel to fire the Hotline .

Gers fans are furious at the stadium cock-up, which will see at least the first month of their campaign spent away from home. And rival fans got their tuppence worth in too. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Celtic shares going through the roof, Rangers struggling to put a roof on. The green-eyed monsters in here cannot admit that their club is a shambles. CEO James Bisgrove jumps ship. A club that are haemorrhaging money left, right and centre with little or no tangible assets. I hope they get a refund from Temu for a late delivery of the steel.”

Stewart Allison emailed: “I have to say, as a season-ticket holder, what a shambles at my club. Passing the buck to a CEO who’s left the club. The board need to get their act together.” But Mark McManus said: “I see James Bisgrove is getting the blame of the current ground fiasco. Surely Mr Bisgrove did not keep the issues to himself with no discussions had at board meetings. It also amazes me that it had only just recently come to light. If that’s the case, then it highlights the poor running of a club and a company that’s been in downfall since 2012. Shoddy at best.”

On to transfers now and George Wilson, West Sussex, had a pop at a Hotline regular when he said: “Rangers statistician and Celtic financial advisor Gordon Ashley is forever telling us Celtic have about £50million in the bank at present. Could he tell us when they are going to spend some of it as they seem to be struggling to afford £6m for Adam Idah or Paulo Bernardo or indeed anybody else. At least the authorities have changed the rules to ensure Celtic will be in Europe after Christmas for a change as no doubt they will be bottom of their group as usual.”

Andrew McAdams, Kirkcaldy, said: “What a palaver about Celtic signing a goalie!! They’ve apparently got millions to spend so spend some and sign one. It won’t happen, will it?”

However, Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon , said: “I trust Brendan Rodgers will get a few players in soon. The American tour might be too quick for some but the club will get it right. We have a title to win is my main concern.”

Meanwhile Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, took issue with caller Alan Flett’s claims about Lawrence Shankland. He said: “Sometimes you don’t know whether to laugh or just feel sad at silly comments, like Alan Flett’s claim Shankland’s not good enough for Rangers, is no use in Europe and of no value.

“Well his goals steered Hearts to third, he’s top SPFL scorer and also deservedly player of the year. He’s certainly the best Hearts centre-forward of the last 30 years. I’m no Hearts fan but credit where it’s due – they couldn’t have done it without him.”

On the same topic the aforementioned Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “Why on earth would Shankland want to go to Rangers? They are an utter mess and are scratching around for free transfers because they are skint. Hearts are a much more professionally run club and will finish above them this season along with Aberdeen. Even his former club Ayr United managed to build an entire new stand without botching it like Rangers did.”

Somewhere in deepest Europe there’s a Euros still going on... and England could clinch a place in the final if they can overcome the Dutch. But Chris McBride, Ayr, said: “I have never worn orange in my life... but I might be tempted to on Wednesday.”
