Greenock parkrun sees 19 set new personal bests

Greenock parkrun saw Inverclyde AC's John Bell top the UK's fastest parkrun list on Saturday, racing home in just 14:30 minutes.

An impressive turnout of 143 runners made the trek this week for the Greenock parkrun, including 19 first-timers chasing milestones in their running journey.

Among the newcomers were six individuals taking part in their first 5k parkrun.

The weekend’s event also saw 19 runners setting new personal bests (PB).

The top three finishers were Mr Bell, followed by Ross Brown, of Herne Hill Harriers, with a new PB of 16:21 minutes, and another Inverclyde AC runner, Peter Tucker at 17:24 minutes.

For the ladies, the first to finish was Fiona MacFarlane, from GGH, with a time of 21:53 minutes, followed by Alison Rowe, a first-timer from Edinburgh Running Network, in 22.20 minutes.

Erin McCaffray, of Bedford & County AC, another first-timer, completed the top three ladies in 22:41 minutes.

Representatives from 14 clubs, including Edinburgh Running Network, Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC, Bedford & County AC, Bedford Harriers AC, Stena Running Club, Kilbarchan AAC, Volunteers parkrun Club (Unofficial), Bellahouston Harriers, East Kilbride AC, and jogscotland, participated in the event.

Louise Hanna marked a milestone as she volunteered for the 10th time.

The event was successfully executed thanks to 28 volunteers, including Daniel McLaughlin, Neil.M Thomson, David MacDiarmid, Emma Sinclair, Irene Mcintosh, and Tracey Howe.

The organisers are inviting individuals who haven't volunteered before to don the pink hi-vis vests.
