Greg Miller reelected Watsontown Borough Council president

Jan. 3—WATSONTOWN — Greg Miller was reelected Watsontown Borough Council president during Tuesday night's reorganization meeting. At the same meeting, Dan Folk was reelected vice president.

A series of appointments were also approved at the meeting. They are as follows: Borough Mana ger Jay Jarrett, Borough Secretary Brendi Brooke and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Lisa Davis.

The firm of McNerney, Page, Vanderlin and Hall were retained as borough solicitor. First National Bank is the borough's depository.

Miller's term on the Warrior Run Fire Board was extended to a fifth year, through Dec. 31, 2027.

Council also approved Miller, as council president, to sign the agreement of sale for 720 Ash St., for $220,000.

Council members also addressed an issue with an abandoned home.

"We received a report from a person who was walking one day that there were cats in a house, and nobody seemed to live there," Jarrett recalled on Wednesday. "There were 30 or 40 cats there. The house was trashed. The owner walked away. The house sat there for months. The banks didn't want anything to do with it."

There is a law in Pennsylvania called the conservatorship law. Northumberland County Court granted Watsontown conservatorship over the home in early 2021, Jarrett said.

The borough had the property renovated, to sell it to Apple Hills Rental. Jarrett said on Wednesday that the borough will break even on the property with the sale.
