Greggs axes 'bake' from main menu leaving fans gutted
Greggs enthusiasts are absolutely gutted as the beloved bakery chain has decided to ditch a fan-favourite from its plant-based menu. The high street staple has confirmed to The Sun that it's bidding farewell to the Vegan Steak Bake, much to the dismay of meat-free pastry aficionados.
Devotees of the vegan delight were left in despair when their orders for the savoury snack came up empty. On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, one customer lamented: "where has the vegan steak bake gone? Don't do this to us."
Another distressed fan demanded answers, saying: "Oi, why you stopping the vegan steak bake! ". A third echoed the sentiment with a post reading: "Why has the vegan steak bake disappeared again? ".
And yet another queried: "Have you guys stopped doing the vegan steak bake again? Been told that by one of your staff." "Has the vegan steak bake gone again? " was the question on another customer's lips.
Regrettably, Greggs has indeed axed the item, aiming to refresh its vegan selection. In an official statement, a spokesperson revealed: "Our Vegan Steak Bake will be taking a break from the menu to make way for a tasty vegan favourite, which will be launching next week."
They also advised Vegan Steak Bake lovers to snap them up while they still can. Though shocking for some, the move isn't entirely unexpected since the bake was initially introduced as a temporary treat.
Debuting in January 2020, the Vegan Steak Bake arrived hot on the heels of the wildly popular vegan sausage roll released the previous year. After a brief disappearance, it made a comeback earlier this year, only to be pulled once more from the Greggs lineup.
Priced at a mere £2 and containing 374 calories, fans are urged to act quickly if they want to savour it once more. Despite this, vegans can still indulge in a variety of treats available at Greggs. The selection includes the iconic vegan sausage roll, a glazed ring doughnut, a sweet potato and onion bhaji rice box, and southern fried potato wedges.
