Grounded Stokies, 'crying' passengers and no bags in Manchester Airport chaos

Thousands of Manchester Airport passengers are today still experiencing delays. A power outage in the early hours of Sunday led to the cancellation of 70 flights due to leave Manchester Airport and 50 incoming flights.

Flights to Burgas, Mahon, Madrid, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Punta Cana and Cancun have so far been delayed this morning. It comes as some passengers are still waiting to be reunited with their luggage.

Now Manchester Airport is today advising passengers to travel to the airport as normal.

In a statement this morning, Manchester Airport said: "All our systems are running as normal today so passengers are advised to prepare to travel as usual from Manchester Airport. That means going online to check the status of your flight before you leave then following your airline's instructions in terms of when to arrive at the airport. The airport is likely to be slightly busier than usual due to passengers affected by cancellations yesterday but we have extra staff in place and our resilience team is helping out."

A number of StokeonTrentLive readers have been caught up in the Manchester Airport chaos.

Lisa Marie Mitchell said: "We sat on a TUI plane being held hostage. They are flying all planes without baggage and if you don't want to fly without, you lose all your money for the holiday. People in tears as they will have no swimwear, sun cream, clothes or anything."

Kerry Rushton said: "I was told to travel as normal. I arrived at the car park, got on the bus to go to the airport, and have now been told our flight is cancelled."

Tracy Szymichowski said: "We should have flown at 6am on Sunday and arrived at our destination at 9pm - minus our luggage."

Angela Connor said: "I was there and it was a complete nightmare. We heard about our cancelled flight through hearsay."

Michelle Stacey added: "We flew home on Sunday night. It was an awful experience. There was a two-and-a-half hour delay from Palma Airport and then when we arrived at Manchester we sat on board for three hours. They just offered a glass of water and kept blasting out the air conditioning."
