One of the entrances to Guildford train station will be closed for another 12 days while safety measures are put in place. Passengers are warned to allow more time to access the station while works are taking place at the Guildford Park Road entrance.

Network Rail is finishing the installation of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers on the Cathedral side of the station. Between Saturday, May 25 and Wednesday, June 5 passengers will need to use the other entrance and exit. The Guildford Park Road ticket office will also be closed during this period.

The entrance was previously shut for nearly two weeks in April of this year, for the same reason. Part of a regional programme to make passengers safer, the work involves digging shallow foundations to install the bollards.

Work is scheduled for between 8am to 5pm each day. In April there was a warning that heavy machinery would be used to break the ground, which would be noisy. Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers are meant to protect people and property from those planning to do harm.

Customers looking to get into the station should use the main entrance, on the town/cinema side of the station. This will involve walking down Guildford Park Road, Farnham Road and Walnut Tree Close, which is only a two minute diversion by foot.

Network Rail thanked passengers for their patience while the essential work was completed.
