Sunday Brunch was full of celebrity name-dropping from the get-go today (February 17), kicking off with host Simon Rimmer remembering meeting Prince Charles and quickly being followed by actor Luke Treadaway recalling the time he met Prince the singer.

But it was presenter Gyles Brandreth who delivered the best story, as he told today's guests and hosts all about the time he awkwardly attempted to show off his moonwalk while in a lift with Michael Jackson himself.

"I was once caught in a lift with Michael Jackson," Gyles began, which is a solid start to any story.

"He was wearing gloves, the mask, and everything. I was with Uri Geller, who knew him, and we were going up in this lift and I thought, 'I'm not going to get much opportunity to meet Michael Jackson again'."

The 70-year-old then went on to explain how he "chatted away" to the star but received no reply, so he decided to take things to the next level.

"So I then thought I'd demonstrate my moonwalk," he continued. "It was quite restricted in the lift, sort of bumping into Uri at the same time, and then Michael Jackson got out at the end and didn't say a word.

"I said to the minder, 'That's a bit rude of Michael Jackson'," Gyles remembered. "He said, 'It's a Monday, Mr Jackson never speaks on a Monday'.

"Michael Jackson apparently never spoke on a Monday – conserved his energy."

Well, there you have it – almost as good a story as the time The Simpsons creator Matt Groening hung up on the singer because he thought it was a prank caller.

Sunday Brunch airs on Channel 4.
