Hail and thunderstorm warning as Met Office issues yellow weather alert

Essex is set to be hit with thunderstorms today (Tuesday, May 21).. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as heavy rain is expected to cover Essex.

The storm is likely to cause disruption to travel in the area and could impact homes and businesses. A yellow weather warning, issued when there is likely to be low-level impact on travel, warns that the storm has the potential to cause “difficult driving conditions and some road closures”.

The storm, which is believed to subside by 6pm today, will cover the whole of Essex and may also hail in isolated areas. It may also lead to power cuts across the county.

The thunderstorm is expected to move north across the county, with some rain expected on Wednesday (May 22), and Thursday (May 23) this week.
