If you hail from Wales and have one of these surnames, you could potentially inherit a fortune, with Gwynedd one of the most lucrative areas. The UK Government has announced that more than 100 unclaimed estates are up for grabs in Wales.

Such riches belong to the bona vacantia list - translating as "vacant goods" - which compiles the names of Welsh individuals who passed away without leaving a will or having identifiable heirs.

Leading the way in unclaimed fortunes is Gwynedd, with a staggering 25 estates still awaiting rightful owners. Hot on its heels is Cardiff, boasting 19 untouched fortunes. Denbighshire is next with 13 unclaimed riches.

Absent a will and known beneficiary, the Crown rightfully claims the ownerless estate. Subsequently, the treasury solicitor takes charge of the assets' dispersal, reports Wales Online.
