Han Solo has been voted the best Star Wars character of all time – with his best pal Chewbacca aptly next to him in second place.

The reformed thief and Millennium Falcon pilot has been portrayed by Harrison Ford since the original Star Wars movie A New Hope in 1977, with Alden Ehrenreich soon to take over for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

However, Han was unceremoniously killed by his wayward son Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in the first film of the most recent Star Wars trilogy, The Force Awakens, in 2015 – which seems a bit of a bummer given, in a poll conducted by SWSN, he was voted as the fan-favourite Star Wars character.

Gosh darn.

Solo and Chewbacca were followed in third place by the wisest of them all, Jedi Master Yoda.

R2-D2 bleeped his way into the hearts of moviegoers to become Star Wars' fourth most popular character, while Darth Vader (so we guess that includes Anakin Skywalker) completed the top five.

Speaking of Anakin Skywalker... it was that iconic scene in The Empire Strikes Back, where it is revealed that Darth Vader is actually Luke's father Anakin, that was voted as the greatest Star Wars scene.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is just days away from release, and evidently will not feature Han Solo after his Force Awakens death.

However, the good news is some reviewers have already seen the movie and have mostly good things to say about it.

Who knows? Perhaps our favourite Star Wars Story has yet to arrive...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas on December 14 in the UK, and December 15 in the US.
