The series is seriously binge-worthy with tonnes of twists, turns and shocks so if you need it, here is the ending of Deadwater Fell explained.

Steve confronts Tom

At the gazebo fundraiser, Tom and his mum, Carol, arrive to which everyone looks immediately uncomfortable. Soon, Steve and Jess arrive with their children to which Steve lunges at Tom and warns him to stay away from his family, after Lewis previously saw Tom at the memorial garden near his primary school.

Tom leaves and outside the fundraiser, Jess tries to calm Steve down but soon confronts him for not acting after Kate warned him that Tom would try to kill her one day.

Soon after, Tom arrives at Steve and Jess' house where he tells Jess that his father physically abused him as a child and suggested that Kate did the same to their children.

Steve and Jess stop trying for a baby

Jess soon finds Steve drunk at the pub, where he says he feels guilty for not listening to Kate's worries about Tom. They go home, she bathes and comforts him and in bed, they discuss having more children.

He shares that he just wants Jess to be happy, to which she says she wants to stop IVF treatments and work on repairing their relationship.

Jess visits Carol

The next morning, Jess pays Carol a visit and confronts her about her husband abusing Tom in his childhood. But, Carol tells Jess that it's completely untrue to which Tom arrives outside and Carol is visibly scared.

"Does he frighten you?" Jess asks Carol, to which she replies she can manage him and can't stop loving someone despite them doing a terrible thing. Then, Tom arrives and he and Jess begin to argue with her attacking him.

Tom orders his mum to call the police, but she looks at him and walks away to which we soon see her and Jess at the police station.

So, who killed Kate and the children?

In a flashback, we see that Tom went through Kate's voicemails and learned that she was planning on leaving him and filing for divorce.

At their home, Tom confronts Kate and they argue to which their daughter, Emily, runs out of the house. Kate goes after her and Tom takes Emily back to bed. Then, Kate goes into the children's room but finds them dead.

She asks Tom for help to which she injects her with a fatal dose and says "they deserve better than you." Then, with Kate and their children dead, he calls his mum and says he tried his best.

Next, we see him inject himself but he soon wakes up alive in the hospital. In the present day, the police arrive. So, it was Tom that killed Kate and their three children because he was abusive and could not cope with them leaving him.

In the final scene, Lewis is in therapy with Jess and Steve where he mentions how he misses his friend, Iris. Then, a flashback of Kate and Jess appears.
