It was a happy ending for these adorable deer after a group of volunteers came to their rescue after they both became stuck in a fence in Grimsby.

On Friday morning (May 3), three volunteers from Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue were tasked with the rescue operation after the organisation received reports of the animals being stuck together in a fence.

In a post to its Facebook page, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue wrote: "A whole new meaning to ‘joined at the hip’!

"This morning three volunteers attended these two roe deer in Grimsby. One male and one female, who had both inadvertently gotten stuck in a fence while running to a field.

"They were assessed by our volunteers prior to intervention; both had the usual abrasions at the hip from the fencing, along with a minor injury to their hooves, but these are very common and do not limit their ability to be released.

"Fortunately, the bars on this fence were wider than most, meaning we were able to release the deer without needing any specialist equipment to spread the fence."

Volunteers first managed to release the female, followed by the male deer, who both "bolted" as soon as they were set free before joining each other further down the field.

The post concluded: "After a period of monitoring and the start of rain (meaning fewer members of the public), we were happy that they are recovering well from the stressful experience, so no further action was needed."
