Harry Styles: 'I have no regrets with One Direction but I don't know if we'll be back'

It has finally happened, guys.

Harry Styles has given us his first solo interview since One Direction went on a hiatus nine months ago, and after teasing us on Monday night with the three unique covers for Another Man magazine, the interview does not disappoint.

Nor does the huge spread of photos that are in the mag, but that’s for a whole other article.

Harry opened up in the high-culture, high-fashion mag in a chat with comedian and his friend Chelsea Handler, as well as a separate chat with Beatles’ legend, Paul McCartney.

Speaking candidly about his career so far and his future plans, Harry was full of nothing but praise for One Direction, although he did break our hearts a little bit when he admitted that he didn’t know if they would actually be back.

When Chelsea asked him if the foursome were over for good, Harry replied: “I don’t know.

“When we started people asked, ‘Where do you think you’ll be in five years?’ It’s a difficult question to answer. I would never say we’ll never do anything again but it’s good for us to be exploring different things.

“Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it’s better if it happens naturally, like: ‘Hey, we all really want to do this again.’

“If that were to happen it would be amazing. I would never rule that out. It’s the most important and greatest thing that ever happened to me, being in that band. It completely changed my life.”

Continuing to diminish speculation that he wasn’t happy in the band, Harry later added to Paul McCartney: “The nice thing for me is I’m not coming away from the band feeling like I wasn’t able to do what I wanted to do.

“I loved it and it was what I wanted but I’m enjoying writing at the moment and trying new things, I’ve been asking myself: ‘What do I want to say?'”

And on top of writing solo music, Harry has also been busy filming his Hollywood debut in Christopher Nolan’s war epic ‘Dunkirk’, which is due for release next year.

Explaining how his first project away from One Direction ended up being an acting gig, the star shared: “I did acting at school, it’s something I have always wanted to explore but I was busy with the band so I never felt like I had time to do it the right way.

“When we took some time off, I thought I’d see if it might work. It’s a challenge but it feels good to be out of my comfort zone.”

And generally speaking, Harry couldn’t be happier with how his career is going at the moment, sharing: “I’m enjoying being in the studio and doing this movie and I’m not too bothered about going on vacation.

“I feel pretty lucky right now. I feel good about everything that happened with the band, I have no complaints or regrets.”

We have to admit, we’re glad to hear it – and we definitely can’t wait to see what solo artist Harry Styles does next.
