Harry Winks says he fulfilled a lifelong dream by claiming his first career trophy when Leicester City were confirmed as Championship title-winners on Monday.

The childhood Tottenham fan joined the club's academy aged five and rose through the ranks over the next two decades, but was never able to fulfil his one desire - claiming a trophy with his boyhood club. In 2019, he was a runner-up in the Champions League final, and it was the same fate in 2021 in the EFL Cup final.

After falling out of favour in North London he suffered relegation on loan with Italian outfit Sampdoria, but was given the chance for redemption at the King Power Stadium this season, and Winks has not shied away from the challenge.

"Amazing. To win the league in the fashion we’ve done it and to be crowned champions, it is something I have always wanted to experience in my career," he told the When You're Smiling podcast as the Foxes were crowned title-winners at Preston after their 3-0 victory.

"I think it’s been my best season without a doubt - I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve enjoyed the team bond with everybody, the way we all get on. The style of the manager is perfect for me, I love the way we play. The fans as well have taken to me, it’s been a great year and great bond.

"I hope that can continue next season and the next couple of weeks is important. We celebrate, enjoy it all together because these moments don’t come often - we’ve worked so hard this year to achieve this - and now we celebrate.”

With 44 appearances for Enzo Maresca's side, the 28-year-old has been a key cog in the machine that has seen off the challenge of Ipswich Town and Leeds United at the top of the Championship table. There is one final fixture to go, against Blackburn Rovers at home on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off), after which Winks and his teammates will be able to get their hands on the Championship trophy.

“It’s gonna be the pinnacle," he said. "Everyone wants to win a trophy in their career, I’ve never managed to do that and to do it this season in the fashion we’ve done it, I can’t wait for next week.

"The atmosphere is gonna be amazing at home to lift the trophy. Going into the game knowing we’re champions is going to be a real special feeling for everyone associated with the club. We want to get 100 points and that is going to be an aim for this week."
