Heartbreak as teen loses necklace in Sutton Coldfield with grandad’s ashes inside

A teenager from Sutton Coldfield is heartbroken after a necklace she was wearing which contains her grandad’s ashes inside has been lost in the town. Eva Healey, 16, was out with friends in the town on the May Day Bank Holiday Monday (May 6) when her treasured necklace was lost.

The silver necklace with a cross pendant containing her grandad, David Healey’s ashes, was lost on a walk from the Royal Court Apartments to Sutton Park and back between around 2.30pm and 6.30pm. The teenager met a friend at the Lichfield Road apartments and took a route down Anchorage Road, Upper Clifton Road and Park Road to Town Gate.

From there they walked on grass verges through the park to Blackroot Pool and went on a pedalo. They then went back to Town Gate, then along Park Road, up Railway Road, briefly along High Street to Midlands Drive where the duo met another friend.

The three then retraced their steps back to Sutton Park, before returning along Park Road, Upper Clifton Road and Anchorage Road to the apartments around 6.30pm were Eva was picked up. The 16-year-old then realised her sentimental necklace was missing and ‘felt like it was losing her grandad all over again.

Eva’s mum Louise Salari said the family went out with torches on Monday night and have been searching for the necklace which has so much meaning to the youngster. Louise told BirminghamLive: “It could have come off anywhere.

“It wasn’t until she got home that she realised. The necklace was something she wore religiously. She only took it off to have a shower.

“It feels like it’s looking for a needle in a haystack. We went out that evening with torches. We have had friends out as well. I have said someone may not find it straight away but with the Facebook post they may realise later when they see it. For her it’s like losing her grandad all over again.”

Eva’s grandad, David Healey died in November 2021. Her mum said: “He was the best grandad. Eva and her twin btorther were his only grandchildren and he doted on them. Losing him hit them both really, really hard.

“We ordered the necklace from the funeral directors and it has a little screw at the bottom to open, when they put some of the ashes in there. Eva is heartbroken to lose it.

“We have got a friend with a metal detector so we are thinking of using that to look for it again. It has no great value for anyone else.” Anyone who spots the necklace is asked to email Eva’s mum Louise at: lousal2002@yahoo.co.uk
