Heathrow Airport has released a statement after a lockdown this morning which left passengers confused amid a security 'incident'. Travellers took to social media asking what was going on as people were evacuated, and in some areas others were just left sitting down waiting for information.

KT3_Villan added: “Anyone know what’s happening at Terminal 2 at #Heathrow? Some sort of evacuation happening but no instructions from staff? Everyone being asked to leave establishments. Congregation on the lower floor.” Shreds said: “#heathrowlockdown2024 T2 being evacuated…everyone sitting around waiting with no info? #heathrow”” Andy “Migerdy” Mac said: “Heathrow Terminal 2 being evacuated but no clue why?”

Now Heathrow has issued a statement explaining what happened - although it didn’t elaborate beyond saying security teams had acted to tackle an ‘incident’: “This morning (5th July) our teams responded to an incident in Terminal 2 which has now been resolved. We ask passengers to check with your airline if flying from Terminal 2. The rest of the airport is operating normally. We apologise for any inconvenience to your journey.”

The airport was been thrown into disarray, with travellers left in a state of confusion after being told to evacuate. Images circulating on social media show what appears to be crowds of holidaymakers stood along the airport’s entrance as multiple police vans scour the area. Officers were also reportedly seen roaming the premises with sniffer dogs.
