Heathrow Airport faced chaos on Friday morning after Terminal 2 was evacuated and emergency services swarmed the area.

Images were shared on social media, sharing what appeared to be crowds of holidaymakers outside the airport as multiple police cans scoured the area.

Officers were also reportedly seen roaming the premises with sniffer dogs.

The airport later confirmed that the area was cleared as a precaution and that controlled re-entry into the terminal will continue to occur after the incident was 'resolved'. A spokesperson said: “This morning our teams worked with emergency services to respond to an incident in Terminal 2 which has now been resolved.

"We ask passengers to check with their airline if flying from Terminal 2, the rest of the airport is operating normally.” reports the Mirror.

Multiple confused travellers took to X saying holidaymakers had been left in the dark as to why they were being evacuated, with no announcements made by the airport. One user wrote: "T2 being evacuated…everyone sitting around waiting with no info?"

Another said: "Anyone know what’s happening at Terminal 2 at #Heathrow? Some sort of evacuation happening but no instructions from staff?" While a third added: "Everyone being asked to leave establishments. Congregation on the lower floor #T2Heathrow."

X User Andy said: "Heathrow Terminal 2 being evacuated but no clue why?". Ken agreed, adding: "At #Heathrow #terminal2 #ht2 been asked to evacuate no idea why." But one user claimed a "suspicious package" prompted bosses to call in a bomb squad. She wrote: "My sister (evacuated) was told that the found a suspicious package and called in bomb squad."

There is yet to be an announcement on what sparked the evacuation, and it remains unknown whether any flights have been delayed or cancelled following the incident.
