Heavy Rain Sparks Flooding Along Florida's West Coast

Thunderstorms brought heavy rain that sparked flooding in cities along Florida’s west coast on Wednesday, August 14, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The city of Bradenton, south of Tampa, was among them. This video shows cars moving through floodwaters in the city.

Early Wednesday, the NWS issued a flood watch for much of central Florida on Wednesday, and said there were already reports of flooding inundating some homes on Florida’s Nature Coast, an area that includes Tampa, Brandenton, and Clearwater.

The weather service said the flood watch might need to be extended as more rain was expected into the weekend. Credit: Toiaya Crawford/@justtoiaya via Storyful
