Heavy Snow Blankets California's Tahoe Region

Heavy snow shut down highways in California Tuesday, February 28, as a storm dumped as much as 24 inches of snow in parts of the state with more in the forecast, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.

Emily Blackmer posted photos and video of the conditions in Tahoe City on Tuesday. US Route 50 was closed Tuesday afternoon due to avalanche control, state highway patrol said.

The NWS warned that blizzard conditions in the Sierra Nevada would cause “extreme travel impacts,” reporting several feet of snow in the forecast for areas above 2,000-3,000 feet, with snowfall rates potentially higher than 3 inches an hour. Credit: Emily Blackmer via Storyful
